Well, I did something yesterday I never thought I would attempt. Surfing, to be exact. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say: trying to surf. ???????????????????? It was Paul vs. the waves over in Carlsbad, CA, a very hip, friendly Cali-classic city that made me fall in love with the place immediately. A fun city, great beaches, fully displaying the Cali lifestyle — and where I feel completely at home. Anyway, about that surfing. I never made it to standing on the board, but I did catch a few waves successfully boogie boarding and it was kinda cool zooming along with the waves ???? to the shore. Mostly, though, the waves beat me, flipped me, and made me snort saltwater. Today, I hurt. Key point, campers — keep your mouth shut as the waves approach. Lesson learned. I did feel rather happy doing this and do realize the skill it takes to soar along the waves. The bigger lesson here is to always try new things that are out of your comfort zone. It can be daunting and scary, but you gain insights, perspectives, and realizations with each new experience you have. I’m still looking at life and living as if it’s in the springtime of my life although, last time I checked, I’m not 21 years old and freshly sprouted from the ground. I also like challenges, even though I sometimes initially falter or fail, but don’t give up. So, I just plan to keep on doing this, experiencing, living, trying, exploring. What’s next? Well, now I’m flying to Baltimore to try to get involved with a NASA space ???? telescope mission. It may not work out, but I’ve gotta try. It’s too cool not to grab an opportunity even if you don’t know it’ll work out.
